Wayne Henderson Director – Owner/Driver

Wayne is a local friendly face that you may have encountered if you’ve been on a fishing charter, enjoyed a trip to the hole in the rock, or if you’ve been on a ferry from Opua to Okiato or Paihia to Russell.  Wayne has spent several years as a skipper for a multitude of marine organisations.

Wayne arrived in Paihia around 1990 and fell in love with the area. In November 2023 he retired from a career in boats and helped out as a tour driver on the Thunder Trike Tours in Paihia. He loved driving and the customer interaction so much that he and his partner Nicky decided to invest in the industry themselves.

Wayne and Nicky explored the taxi sector market in Paihia and felt that it could be improved.  Whilst on a recent holiday to Papua New Guinea they registered their new company “Bay Cabs 2024 Ltd” and started the journey to provide a reliable, prompt, professional taxi service at reasonable rates.

Why the name Bay Cabs?  Apart from being better alphabetically, it represented services throughout the wider region, rather than specific to just the village of Paihia.

Nicky Prescott – Director -Owner/Driver

Nicky met Wayne some 15 years ago and their combined love of the Bay of Islands and the local community has grown over that time.  Nicky’s broad commercial experience has been in owning her own small business, as well as implementing accounting systems in larger companies.  Nicky is excited to be working alongside Wayne to increase their hours of operation, while continuing to hold down a position as the office manager for a local marine engineering firm. In her spare time Nicky loves to frequent the gym as well as spend quality time with her children and grandchildren.
